Client Needs:

Columbia Business School's Justice Through Code program offers live Zoom training to assist returning citizens in their job search. However, due to the limited capacity of live sessions, many of the 1.9 million currently incarcerated and 79 million with criminal records in the U.S. are unable to access this support. The client seeks to develop a self-paced online training, expanding its reach to empower every returning citizen.

My Solution:

I crafted the curriculum plan for a 25-hour self-paced career development course hosted on Canvas, focusing on vital skills like job search strategies, resume writing, networking, and interview preparation. 

The curriculum comprises five units, of which I personally developed one, encompassing 5 hours of interactive content specifically for the resume writing module using Articulate Storyline. 

I was also responsible for building the Canvas site, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly online learning environment.

Additionally, I led an exhaustive 8-hour user testing phase, gathering crucial feedback to continually refine and improve the course design.

Multiple learning elements are in place to provide concrete experiences, reflective observation opportunities, and encourage active experimentation. 

Assessment Strategy

The course includes in-course knowledge checks and reflections, as well as assignments consisting of practical tasks aimed at addressing immediate challenges in job searching. 

Final Delivery:

• 1 syllabus outlining the learning objectives, course framework, and instructional components

• 1 canvas site that includes a homepage and over 10 module pages

• 4 fully interactive and custom-built Storyline elearning courses 

• 3 assignment templates, including 1 background check checklist, 1 sample resume and 1 resume checklist 

• 6-hour worth of content

• 4 posters for marketing
